David featured on “It’s Only a Theory” – a TV panel show produced by Hat Trick for BBC 4, in which comedians Andy Hamilton and Reginald D Hunter join each week with a guest panellist to decide whether theories, proposed by experts in their field, deserve to be approved or consigned to be shredded.

The series was originally aired in late 2009, but it’s back for a re-run on Wednesdays at 7.30pm on BBC4.

The programme’s purpose is to discuss science in an informative and light-hearted format. In the best traditions of scientific inquiry, the experts are subjected to some gentle ribbing that can expose weaknesses or confirm that their theories stand up to scrutiny.

The theory I was asked to propose was that “Dogs bark because they live with us”, which at first appears nonsensical. How can they bark just because they live with us? But on closer examination, a case can be made for it.

Interested? Check out my article “Why Do Dogs Bark?” to see what I proposed on the show – and keep an eye out for David on the show.
